Shippers in Accra, Takoradi and Bolgatanga hold last quarter meetings for 2020

The Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) has organised the last quarter meetings for 2020 for members of the Greater Accra, Western and Upper East Regional Shipper Committees in Accra, Takoradi and Bolgatanga, respectively.

On 26th November,2020 in Accra, a resource person from the Energy Commission, Mr. Hubert Nsoh Zan  educated the shippers on the new draft regulations of the Energy Commission on  prohibition of the manufacture, sale or importation of incandescent filament lamps, used refrigeration, used refrigerator-freezers, used freezers and air conditioners, Regulations 2020.

The new regulations, which is yet to be approved by parliament, will provide for the ban on importation of used products which are inefficient in terms of energy consumption. This is to prevent the dumping of waste goods from other countries.

In Bolgatanga, the Regional Director of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) educated members of the Upper East Regional Shipper Committee (UERSC) on the topic “Mitigating the Impact of COVID-19 on Businesses.”

During the Western Regional Shipper Committee (WRSC) on 26th November, 2020, the Director of the Port of Takoradi, Cpt. Ebenezer Afadzi, gave an update on the impact of COVID-19 on the operations of the port.

He revealed there was a huge decrease in port traffic this year as compared to 2019 due to the halt in the export of manganese and the impact of COVID-19 pandemic.

The Greater Accra Regional Shipper Committee (GARSC), the UERSC and  the WRSC are three of the 10 Regional Shipper Committees established by the GSA to bring together shippers, trade related agencies, shipping service providers and other relevant stakeholders in the shipping and logistics industry to discuss pertinent issues affecting the industry for redress.
